However, it's sad to see him leave so soon... Another episode in the treacherous history of the NeonQ highway."  "That isn't why I came here though. Sakura Bunny apparently had a minor crash in a battle with some Comet knockoff. 'Silver Phoenix' is what he calls himself. To push Sakura Bunny that far is quite a feat, but I still want to see for myself... Eh, it looks like I came too late."   "Who's this? Seems like he's coming in quite fast." "It was the Deathmaker who tailed you that night." "Seriously!?"  "I originally planned to join both of you at the 2nd overpass, but that was the exit he took-" "Then you met him!" "All of these newcomers have lots of potential, and they're climbing up fast."  "At the end of the day, I find myself at the bottom... It seems so difficult to climb back up, unlike these newbies... What should I do?"  ---Meanwhile--- "Ahh Green Lightning, Retro Warrior!" "Hey man!" "Ay. Glad you could make it in time." "Also, what's up with the change in location?"  "Ahh, that. Well, if we take the entry from 2nd overpass, we could get a good rolling speed before the Neon Bridge. Also, I just wanted to change things up hehe." "Same as ever, Green Lightning. I should've known." "By the way, those neon signs are great, but you should put more of them on-" "YES, I know, okay?"  ... "I think you know why we chose this spot, Silver Phoenix." "Heh. Neon Forest proved to be quite a critical section for all of us. Those long sweeping curves can prove to be quite problematic at these speeds..." "Yeah, when Ember Wave suggested it I knew it was because he did the worst in this section out of all of us." "Yeah, yeah... Please stop rubbing it in geez..."  *engine noises* "Who's that? Sounds incredibly powerful..."  "The three rumored newcomers of NeonQuaretaro... Good to see they're getting along quite well."  "Isn't that an MZ2?" "Looks like that, Renegade." "It's so heavily customized..."  "Now, there's even supercars in the scene. NeonQ's going to become way more interesting..." "More like scary." "Yeah. Renegade's right about that, Phoenix. I've heard quite a bit of the carnage that's happened on this loop." "True... Even the founder of this city himself had a share in it..."  "Huh, who's that? Wait, isn't that... OH SH-"  "GAH Twilight Ray!?"  "Ugh. I guess we both know why we chose this spot."  "We're both at the bottom."  "NeonQuaretaro's quite impressive. I understand why Sievert Motorsports wanted me to get involved here..."  "When they first asked me about it, I thought it would be a complete walkover with me having this MZ2. But, after seeing that last race, I realized I totally underestimated the caliber of the racers here..."  "But for now, I need to see someone first..."  "Well, well. If it isn't the famed Impulse Dream?"  "Heh, yes. You're NeonQ's founder, Red Blade, is that right?" "Well yes, but not quite. Green Lightning helped out with the neon around the city to really transform a ghost city into what it is now." "Ah yes, Lightning talked of you when I was planning this visit here. How's he been?" "Ah, he's still the top racer over here. I must say he's doing a great job helping to run this neon city." "I knew Lightning before he left for this city. He really looks at home in NeonQuaretaro." "Yeah. For a lot of us here, NeonQ's become our own little haven."  *engine sounds in the distance* "I guess they've finally hit the loop."  "Hey, Panzer. The trio have hit the loop at the 2nd overpass." "Roger that, Red Blade. I'll notify you once they hit the bridge." "Thanks, man."  "Yo, guys. They've finally come!" "Huh? It looks like they're cruising!"  "I guess they want to get up to speed before the Neon Bridge..." "That's right, Renegade. There's a very short stretch between the typical entry at the 2nd overpass and the Neon Bridge." "That's quite a grand entrance, though. But, I guess that sounds just like Lightning." Return to original post<<start of episode 9.2, part 1>> "Last year, I was the sole challenger to Red Blade, the fastest of NeonQ, and defeated him. This time, there's two new challengers against me: the Gold Legend, a rumored speed demon; and the Retro Warrior, who's been steadily climbing up the leaderboard these past months."  "Here they come. Cruising at about 130-ish km/h or so..."  "So then, Gold Legend, Retro Warrior, show me what you've got!"  "The race has started!" "Roger that, Panzer. I'll notify the others." "Alright, thanks."  "Wh- Gold Legend's on a pace above ours already!?"  "That is some incredible acceleration there. Looks like I have no choice but to go full speed. Tonight's gonna be very interesting!"  "They're trailing behind, including Lightning!? I guess my engine is really overpowered heh! Catch me if you can, Lightning!"  *skid* "N-NO!" "Hmm. That's a lotta power with very little traction! You've got to be way more careful, Gold Legend!"  "Hmm. Gold Legend has lots of power to speed through the straights, while Green Lightning has lots of traction to power through critical sections... That means while I can catch up to the Gold Legend around the bends I may lose the Lightning... This complicates things a lot..."  "Lightning's catching up, but I can't pull away. At least, not now..."  "As I expected. This two lane stretch leaves little room for any slight loss of traction. Green Lightning saw this ahead and is now taking advantage of it!"  "But still, he pulled away at full speed..."  "He has full confidence in the Lightning. No wonder his aura is somehow comforting..."  "Retro Warrior too!?"  "I'm falling behind. I can't keep up in this tight section... I know. I can't push it too far, when it's not safe."  "Green Lightning. I wonder if you can escape from me now!"  "We've reached 200 km/h, and Retro Warrior still seems to be speeding up!"  "A hidden power...?"  "Oh, Retro Warrior. Coming in hot, I see?"  "Woah! I didn't know Retro Warrior could challenge the Lightning like that!"  "I better move to the faster lane heheh."  "I managed to pass you, Lightning! While you're good at maintaining speed around bends, you're acceleration past 200 km/h is lacking!"  "Nice, Retro Warrior. I'll show you what the Lightning is capable of!"  "Retro Warrior actually managed to pass Lightning! He's way faster than I expected..."  "It's the Neon Tunnel now. Green Lightning's slowly catching up to the Retro Warrior..."  "Can you match Green Lightning's agility, Retro Warrior?"  "Lightning passed me. It's no use; I can't accelerate further here..."  "He's set the pace a notch higher once again."  "Green Lightning's aura is truly..."  "...mesmerizing..."  "I've caught up with you now, Retro Warrior!" "Oh, you're here now..."  "The next turn's coming up, Gold Legend. You'll fall behind again."  *distant, echoing engine noises* "Sounds like they're coming out of the Neon Tunnel!" Gold Legend just suddenly sped up and overtook the Retro Warrior!" "How fast is he going?"  "Not only he passed Lightning, but look at that huge gap between them!" "Yeah, he could've reached 300 km/h to pull off an overtake like that... Meanwhile, I was nowhere near those speeds; no wonder Silver Phoenix could pull away so easily."  "Yeah Twilight Ray. But it's obvious that Gold Legend's power is in a league of its own!"  "That was an impressive move, Gold Legend. Let me try to second that!"  "Ciao, Lightning!" "Ehh, I'm being cornered in this outer lane..."  "... I've got to recover. After the overpass is the longest 3-lane straight; I need enough speed to give a good fight there... So, then..."  "I guess it'll be a hard fight for Lightning now, considering there's another straight so soon!" "Hmm, indeed. I really need to update my Countach, even if I have to switch it!" "W-What did you say!? Also, how are you going to get another Countach!?? You know how rare those are!" ...  *skid* "OH NO!! This is way worse than before! I need to focus!"  "I've caught up with you! The 1st overpass will surely be an issue for you, Gold Legend."  "Okey dokey. I didn't think I'd have to do this tonight, but now I don't have a choice."  "WH-What's Lightning doing!? Exiting at this speed! He's going to crash at this rate!"  "So you've fished out a little trick of yours at this time? But still, that's a huge risk!"  *engine noises in distance* "Those three have finally reached the first overpass." "Oh! After two years, I really want to see how Lightning's improved." "You won't be disappointed. Though, those two are some tough contenders he's facing against."  "By the way, of all places, why'd you select this spot to observe?" "You noticed! Well, it's because of this section before the 2nd overpass. It's the combination of the end of the longest straight followed immediately by a bend that leads into a sloped ascent on the overpass. I know a lot has happened on this section even within these two years..." "I heard some Silver Comet had a crash just a few months ago... Didn't it happen on this overpass?" "Yeah. That's just one of the many events that's occured around this area. Racers had to learn quickly how to deal with this section in a dogfight, or else..."  "Let me take this place from you for now, Gold Legend." "Retro Warrior's passing me again. Tch."  "But, what I'm more worried about is..."  "... where Green Lightning's at!"  "The straight is right up ahead. Retro Warrior's just buying his time before I pass him again..."  "There's Green Lightning. I guess his little trick of his worked." "So you've caught up, huh? Gold Legend's probably going to smoke me again."  "Alright. It's time!"  "300 km/h and increasing. I'll leave a huge gap between us again, Lightning."  "Gold Legend's acceleration is truly matchless. 300 km/h twice in such a short time is beyond comprehension!"  "That was incredulous! Gold Legend just whizzed past Retro Warrior and Green Lightning!" "So it was Green Lightning who was in the outer lane... That means, he avoided the overpass by using the exit lane!" "Lightning's really changed a lot..." "As I told you, these contenders really push him to the limit!"  "Gold Legend, that's a huge gap! But, can you handle your lack of traction to handle the coming bend at this speed?"  "Gold Legend really slowed down a lot from when he passed Lightning... He's taking this section really seriously..." "But that really paid off. Green Lightning and Retro Warrior have lots of ground to make up for..."  "So they're going to the 2nd overpass now." "Knowing the caliber of these racers, they'll make it really clean through this section. But it was quite amazing to witness such a risk as what Gold Legend took by reaching that kind of speed in such a critical section!" "I can really see what you mean, Red Blade. Now I know why Green Lightning's so different now; the races here are totally on another level!"  "Even on this overpass, Green Lightning's speeding up!"  "I yield, Lightning. There's no way I can push further..."  "Green Lightning managed to close that huge gap on the 2nd overpass itself! With the Neon Forest right up ahead..."  "... this is really his field day. The question is, how much of a gap can you pull off, Lightning?"  "For now, I'll focus my effort on getting past Gold Legend."  "Tch. I can really feel the loss of traction on these sweeping curves..."  "By now, they must've entered the Neon Forest. Glad that Red Blade sent that tip!" "I wonder how it must be for those three. For us, we had a very close battle through the section..." "Yeah Ember Wave. But from what we've heard, gaps are pretty common between these three, especially with the Gold Legend!" "Reaching 300 km/h twice in such a short time is astounding, especially in a route like NeonQ's loop. However, he must've slowed down a lot after that stretch for the second overpass." "Hmm. That's true Renegade. That may equalize their positions before the Neon Forest..." "That's right Phoenix. With the kind of section Neon Forest is, it won't allow much distance between them." "But, that's only if the 2nd overpass does equalize their positions... Anyway, who really does well on the overpasses here?" "Well, I think I know of at least one..." ...  "I've lost some ground to the Retro Warrior. Not to mention that huge distance Green Lightning's left us. But this section's almost over, followed by an incredibly long straight. I've gotta start pushing now if I want to get to Lightning!"  "Now that's a gap. This next straight is the final stretch before Neon Bridge and passes through a critical section in the 2nd underpass. I've gotta make sure Gold Legend doesn't pass me before that!"  "Gold Legend's already passing me here! A desparate attempt to overtake Lightning before the underpass, huh?"  "Oh there they are!" "So you were right, Ember Wave. Green Lightning really left a large gap with Gold Legend and Retro Warrior." "So it seems... It was Gold Legend who did the worst in this section; no wonder he's trying to make a desparate comeback now with that obvious pace change!" "But..."  "... Retro Warrior suddenly sped up!?" "EH! Gold Legend couldn't overtake him then!?"  "Ohhh! Now Gold Legend's finally overtaking him!" "Geez! That's crazy acceleration!" ... "290 and climbing..."  "...I'm coming for you, Green Lightning!" But I still have a chance; the next bend is coupled with an immediate ascent, and if I'm not mistaken he'll need to slow down a lot to maintain control of his vehicle. Unlike him, I know I have full confidence in my Lightning!"  "WHOA! Retro Warrior just passed Green Lightning less than a kilometer away from the finish!?"  "Wh-WHAT!? You're making a move NOW!?" "I think I can make it... this sudden jerk may pull the car a little too much to the right since it's an ascent but... I think I'll be able to make it!"  "Dang. A risky overtake like this just a few meters from the end. Very nice, Lightning!"  "I made it. Thank goodness! So I guess I won...!" I can still feel the goosebumps when I hit 300 km/h on those two straights.."  "So, Green Lightning won after all!?" "That's suprising, that it ended being a tight dogfight between Retro Warrior and Green Lightning!" "Also the fact that the only one that didn't hit 300 km/h at all during the race won!?" "Preposterous!" "Hmm... I guess what really mattered was whether you could push your car to the maximum at every point in the loop!" "Geez! That's a high bar to set for street racers!" "Yeah..." ...  "Even though Gold Legend did so spectacularly well in the straights, he ended up coming in last..." "That's right Sakura Bunny. Silver Phoenix defeated me in this straight like Gold Legend smoked Green Lightning and Retro Warrior. However, I really lacked even enough speed to catch him on the critical sections. When I realized that, I knew I couldn't continue, and that the race was already over." "Hmm. I guess you need both: enough power on the straights and lots of traction for the critical sections. Yeah, you should really get an upgrade if you wanna continue racing here." ...  "Green Lightning seems so much more alive now than he was two years ago, even though he's already past his prime." "HEY 30 isn't old dude! But, yeah these races require a lot from the driver. I could feel it that this race took a lot out of him..." "Yeah. No wonder he felt as though Silver Phoenix could beat him..." "I guess he's looking for a worthy successor..." "Wait, what are you talking about!?" "Anyway, you're coming for the car meet, aren't you?" "Yes of course! When I talked to Lightning about visiting NeonQ, he asked me to stay for the car meet. Though, I couldn't help but sense he was quite anxious during our conversation... Um, do you happen to know what's bothering him?" "Uh? Oh, it's just this race; he spent a lot of time doing the signs that he couldn't practice enough." "Ohh. I see." He didn't tell him? EP. 10: The Neon Finale! The final chapter of the Neon Nights season! Return to original post--10.1: THE TOP-- Gold Legend: That's it, the end of the season.  Gold Legend: It really has been a wild ride, with this burst of activity on the NeonQ scene.  Gold Legend: Guess I'll hit the loop. Oh, right. Gotta remind Lightning to remove the signs.  Gold Legend: That meet was really something, basically everyone was there. We were all chatting, just having a fun time.  Gold Legend: Huh, an Aventador SV exiting the loop. Random car sightings like that are usually rare, but of course they'd be common around the time of the meets.  Gold Legend: Wait, who's that coming into the loop? I-It can't be...! Green Lightning: Ah, Gold Legend? He decided to take a run as well.  Gold Legend: What's Green Lightning doing here? Great timing, I gotta tell him to remove the signs. Green Lightning: Guess this would be a good time to hang out with him.  Green Lightning: ...I hear sounds. Two engine sounds. Gold Legend: Two sounds? Who'd be having a duel at sunset?  Retro Warrior: Damn, he's improved since then. Renegade: Hmph. Looks like I've improved enough to put up a good fight against Retro Warrior.  Renegade: Oh, wait. Here's my exit. I have a meet of my own. Retro Warrior: He left?! Just when it was getting good...WOAH! Those two are...?!  Gold Legend: R-Retro Warrior?! Green Lightning: So the top trio's all here, huh. Looks like Retro Warrior was out for a little run as well. Retro Warrior: Green Lightning and Gold Legend...they look like they're just cruising.  Green Lightning: I'll stop here, they're sure to follow. Gold Legend: Lightning's pitting in? Retro Warrior: I'm stopping too, then.  Green Lightning: Just as I expected, they wanna talk, too.  Green Lightning: Hey, guys! How's it been? Good to see you! Gold Legend: Yo, Lightning. Retro Warrior: Evening, Green Lightning, Gold Legend.  Gold Legend: Oh, right. Lightning, you might wanna remove the meet signs, now. Green Lightning: OOOOOH RIGHT! I'll do it soon.  Green Lightning: Ah, what a wonderful end to the season! Over only these two years, NeonQ has grown so much. Retro Warrior: Mate, what is this, the seventh time I heard you say that this week? Gold Legend: Come on, Retro Warrior! Lightning's just glad that the city's doing so well. Isn't that something to really think about? Green Lightning: Whoops. But seriously, it's really unbelievable. If I told myself 2 years ago that this would be possible in a couple of years, I would never believe it.  Green Lightning: Well well well, look who it is! Red Blade: Hey, guys. What are y'all doing here? Retro Warrior: Oh, just chilling.   Gold Legend: Hey, who's that just leaving? Green Lightning: Impulse Dream, a friend from back then. Retro Warrior: There's...some sort of...aura...around that guy, which tells me that he's a racer to be feared...  Red Blade: He sure is. Impulse's a professional racer who's here in NeonQ for the competition. Retro Warrior: Well, I sense that he can easily give me an ass-whooping if I try to fight him.  Impulse Dream: So that's why Red Blade decided to pull over. Lightning and company are there, as well.  Impulse Dream: NeonQ seems a lot of fun to race on. I really should get into some fights.
